2 days ago our dnn site completely went down.  the resources being used on the cpu went to 100% and continued to run at 100%.

the event log in the database is showing a general exception error mutliple times.

the error is System.Exception: Unhandled Error:  ---> System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.     --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

does anyone know what can be causing this or a way to find out what the problem is.  we can currently not get to our site at all.

A little more info would be helpful, such as:

What version of DNN you're using?
What has changed in the last few days (i.e. module installs, scheduler changes, etc)?
Do users have the ability to upload files?

In your web.config you'll find a line (170-180 or so) that starts like the one below, please post the entire line of what you have there:

<!-- allow large file uploads -->
    <httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="8192"

dnn 4.8
the last changes made to the site were simple html/text module edits.  those were made on monday morning.  the problem started sometime tuesday night/wednesday morning.  there have been no module installs, scheduler changes etc.
the host account is the only account used and it does have the ability to upload files.

the web config lines reads
<httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="8192" requestLengthDiskThreshold="8192"/>
