An interesting issue I just noticed. I have just upgraded a DNN install to 05.05.00 (653) and I have created another website with a fresh install of DNN 05.05.00 (653)

The Control ribbon on the upgrade site looks like it always has but the new install is very different with tabs, common tasks/Current Page/ Admin/Host and instead of the normal three column layout Page functions/Modules and Common tasks its a 5 column layout settings/Actions/Update Current Page/Copy Actions/Help.

My questions are:

  • Why is there a difference between the update and the fresh install?
  • how do I get them to look the same? assuming fresh installed version is the new standard.

Thanks

starting with DNN 5.4. a new Ribbon Control Panel has been added. you can switch between Iconbar and Ribbon control in Host Settings > Other Settings section.

Sebastian

thanks, now I know what that means.

Any reason for the extra complexity?   Somehow I think that setting up default behaviors belongs in the Admin/settings area.  I like the admin an host functions on the ribbon albeit not everything seems to be available such as taxonomy, vendors and search engine sitemap.

Same goes with host on the ribbon nice but also not complete. Which makes it kind of useless as it kinda-sorta duplicated most of the functionality. takes up extra space (cant remove admin and host from menu as the areas in the ribbon don't have all the functionality) and thus introduces cognitive confusion to the end users.

just on my perfect world scenario I assume one day the ribbon will be complete, is there a way to turn off the admin and host menu items?
