Can DNN 5.6.1 use ASP.NET 4.0? Or 3.5? Or do both work?

If DNN 5.6.1 uses .NET 3.5, can it run on an ASP.NET 2.0 AppPool? Or does a 3.5 AppPool need to be created?

Thanks!

DotNetNuke v 5.6.1 (as well as the most recent release, 5.6.2 and the forth-coming DNN 6.0) will run in either an ASP.Net 2.0/3.5 SP1 or ASP.Net 4.0 AppPool. Note that ASP.Net 3.5 SP1 is built on top of ASP.Net 2.0 so either in IIS Management or in most shared hosting control panels you will not see an option for ASP.Net 3.5. Also, even when running in an ASP.Net 2.0/3.5 SP1 AppPool, any server error messages, etc. will show a 2.0.xxxxx version number for ASP.Net.

As for ASP.Net 4.0, the DNN framework should automatically detect that the AppPool is running 4.0 and make the necessary changes to the installation's web.config file. One exception to that is if a non-standard web.config file makes use of a <location> element.

Thank you Bill for your response!

For my first question, I am using DNN 5.6.1, I'd like to build the custom modules using ASP.NET 4.0 and some people say it is better to use ASP.Net 3.5. What is the different using .NET 3.5 and 4.0 for DNN 5.6.1?
