Good morning,

I've been trying to find a solution to a problem (the other dev that I inherited this DNN site from wasn't all that....good.....) where my client claims that the dev was able to turn off our DNN site based on roles.

For example, I would like to allow all users who are under the Administrator role to log in to the site, but not the users in the Users role.

I'm using DNN 3.0.13.

Also, I should mention that this should be application wide, not just a few pages.

Update: After fiddling with some settings on the Home page (the page that gets redirected to when a user attempts to login, I only allow the roles that I deem worthy of logging into.

Under the Admin -> Pages, click the page that would be considered the Home page (landing page, w/e) and edit (click the pencil while having Home selected). Under the Persmissions, I had selected All Users (this will allow all users to view their home page). I changed this to the roles that I wanted to have access. Tried with 2 different roles and this seemed to work. This doesn't stop the fact that people can try to use hard coded url's to get to a certain section of the website, but I know my users who use this site aren't going to be doing any kind of injection.

Thanks again for those who did view my post (and probably chuckled in the process).

Cheers,

The question here is, how will DNN know what role the current request is in without logging in.

This would require the request to be identified by the IP address, something DNN doesn’t do out of the box.

I’m guessing, but the other dev may have restricted access in IIS, this will restrict all access though, where users without an accessible IP address will see nothing.

Perhaps I'm being over-simplistic, and I don't mean to insult, by why not just  'close' (disable) registration and give IDs and passwords only to admins?

Site Settings; Advanced; page 103 of the DNN562 UserManual [don't know about version 3...]

Logs can tell you if someone keeps trying to hack in to your admin accounts, if that's your fear...
