Hi,

sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, but I just started here.

I have just taken over maintaining a website which has been running under DNN for a while.

There is a slide show which is created in javascript.  Each month I receive 12 to 50 jpeg images and a text file with various information about the jpeg files which is also displayed with the images..

Currently I have to hardcode this information in the javascript.  I thought it would be much easier if I could just add a bit more javascript to read the information file directly.  My problem is that I do not know how to get a File object under DNN.

I tried;
var myFile = new File("my/filepath/name.txt") but it does not work.

Can someone let me know if this can be done under DNN and how I do it.

Thanks,

Bryan.

there are a number of image sliders/rotators you can use from http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Create-an-image-rotator-slideshow.aspx , i recommend inspecting the code of the rotatorwidget to see an example of iterating a directory (the imageURL property)

Yes, there are, but they cost $ and none of them do what I want, and are generally not configurable.

Which is why I wrote my own (works great on Windows), but I need to get the DNN method of extracting the File Object before I can develop it any more for our website.

Does it need a ticket to my Web Hosting Company to request things like that?

Thanks,

Bryan.

the DotNetNuke code is server-side, not client - if you're looking to iterate files via javascript there are various methods - a number of the controls on the page I suggested earlier are opensource so you can inspect how they do it.
