Hi all-

When sending e-mails to website members, I have found that the [User:FirstName] token does not always work. Some users have their first name inserted into the e-mail correctly, but others just have a blank space where their first name should go.

An older forum post that I found recommend [Profile:FirstName] instead of [User:FirstName], but that did not yield better results. I also double checked that the users who did not have the token inputted correctly when they received e-mails did in fact have their first name filled out in their profile.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here? The introduction to my e-mails is simply:

Hi [Profile:FirstName],

And then so on with the message. At the bottom of the message, I have additional tokens that display the user's display name and e-mail, and those always work correctly, so it can't be a larger issue that affects all tokens.

Is this a bug of some sort, or is there a trick to getting the first name value of a user? Any help would be appreciated.

-Phil

this should work fine, as long as you are using TO send method (BCC will not substitute tokens).

We mostly send mass messages via rolegroups, so the 'To' field would be blank in that case. Would that be causing an issue?

Tokens are implemented to be added in TO mode only. if you are sending to role groups, only the single user will show up in TO.

Right, under send options, we have the 'TO' option checked so that one e-mail is sent per registered user. Then we select a specific role group to send to on the 'Message' page.

So we have always been using the configuration you recommended, but this is still causing the error I was talking about in my first post.
