Hi,
My version is 6.x.x , Normal Folder in file manager: " These permissions apply to DotNetNuke. Anonymous users may be able to bypass DotNetNuke and read these files. Other folder providers such as Secure, and Database can prevent all anonymous access to files."

The DotNetNuke 7 is the same or functioning?
I can't use secure folder because eat the server memory.

this message means that if someone knows the exact Url of the file, he/she is able to download it without logging in to DNN, eg.

http://www.mysite.com/Portals/0/documents/mySecretDocument.pdf

If you choose the Secure folder option, the file is renamed to something like "mySecretDocument.pdf.resources", and only a file handler (LinkClick.aspx) is able to deliver the document. This file handler also checks the permissions. I have not experienced that this is eating server memory.

The Database folder option is different, as it stores the files in the database, and this can eat the hard disk space.

This behaviour is the same in DNN 7, and it was like this since it was introduced a long time ago.

Could i ask you try the big file (800mb-1gb) downloading from secure folder?
Because my system eat the memory. When i download from secure folder for example the 800mb file, the server ram less 800mb... And when i downloading normal folder the server ram doesn't change.

Béla,

this is correct. The file handler reads the file and delivers it under its original name in a memory stream. Therefore it uses the ammount of memory for the time it delivers the file and goes down again after the file is delevered. So it is not "eating" the memory, the used memory will be released immediately.

On the other hand: why such big files? What kind of information do you provide? Would it not be more reasonnable to divide the information into multiple (smaller) parts? Or in the case of movies etc. finding a streaming solution?

Files are video.
Stream is not option because important for my subscription clients can download the files.
But not everybody.
I would like to secure folder function without memory eating...
Because from normal folder downloading, the memory doesn't change.
Any idea? Or module?
