Hi,

i have created users in DNN with Clear password (0) format.Now i want to change the Password format for existing users to Encrypted format (2).Even i change PasswordFormat="Encrypted" in web.config, the password is in clear format. Now how can i proceed further.

There is no procedure in the core framework to change format of existing passwords - this requires reading, decrypting and hashing it before storing it again in the database. This cannot be done by SQL, you would need a module for it. What you may do is setting password format to hashed and by sql requiring all users to change password upon next login - which will be hashed.

actually the provider supports changing the passwordFormat as each users password stores the format type. However what it does not do is update the password on your behalf, so what you need to do after changing the passwordFormat is change the password for each user -typically the easiest way is to force a password reset via admin->users. Note: you could write a script to update the passwords, I know we used one on dnnsoftware.com when we updated all users to use hashed passwords,but I'm not aware of where it is now (we gave Mitchel Sellers a copy but I don't know if he released it)
