We have one subportal that is taking an extreme amount of diskspace. Would it be possible to move this portal to a separate storage. While it is still in the same database and webserver?

Hi,

By " separate storage", do you meen database storage or files in the portals directory ?

A possibility is to split the 2 portals in to 2 installations (files and dab). You can archive this by duplicate the installation and then delete the second portal in the first install and delete the first portal in the second install.

Hi, Separate: meaning that a subportal has his files and folders on another drive/harddisk.

It is just one subportal that takes 99% of all our space on the servers. By offloading this portal the system will have less problems with diskspace.

I will try your solution, did not think about that! The Subportal has a url like www.domein.com/subportal and this could be a problem.

A subportal has his directory in the "portals" directory of your installation.

I am not 100% sure, i think you can't split a child portal like this  www.domein.com/subportal on a other portal.

You can do it with subportal.domein.com

An other solution, can maybe using a UNC Folder Provider.

Or move the big files to a other ftp/web server, witch just serve files. That you manually link on dnn.

1. Install a second hard drive on your server
2. Copy the Contents of the users portal folder  -  ../portals/{portalid}/  to the ROOT of that new hard drive
3. delete the contents of ../portals/{portalid}/ from the original drive - so that the folder is EMPTY
4. Mount the new drive directly to the the old portal root directory.

The new drive will be treated by the server as though it is just that users root folder.
