Hi, I cannot get the search tool to work on the main host site in DNN7.02. I have some pages set up but it never returns a result
We have a number of portals on the instance and the search tool is working on them just fine

But on the main host site I cannot get any results at all, I have tried reindexing and clearing the cache but to no avail, can someone offer a solution.

do you have any errors stored in admin->event viewer? What happens when you enter into the search box, does a preview of results appear? If not, what happens when you press enter? Searches use service framework methods, so are executing background requests - can you have a look at these via a http proxy such as fiddler to see if they are working (e.g. perhaps they're failing for some reason and return a 500 exception). Finally, it's always good to use a tool such as https://luke.codeplex.com/ to check the lucene.net index - if entries aren't being indexed no data will be returned (you can quickly validate this by going to host->scheduler and clicking on the log of the scheduled task to see what it has logged i.e. items found, indexed etc.

Hi thanks for replying Cathal.
What is the tool you refer to on Luke.codeplex, do I have to install it somewhere and how would I use it.

There are some general exceptions in event viewer which is showing a system null reference exception see below

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

yes, you download luke.net and install it (alternatively download http://code.google.com/p/luke/ ) - in either case you point the tool to the lucene index e.g. App_Data\Search -this will allow you to browse any indexed data. If you do so and find no data the problem is in the indexing - however in your case it looks like the problem is elsewhere -there's a bug logged for something similar that was fixed in 7.2.1 so I suspect if you upgrade (https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/brow...)

From esthetic point of view, a blank page is much more beautiful than a page with random text on it... ;)
