I have a site on windows 2008 server that is DNN 7.3 community edition, have moved it to another server window 2012 , but its using sqlexpress , windows authentication as sql mode. This works on the 2008 server setup:

 <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=Mysite\mysite;Initial Catalog=mydbase; Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

on 2012:

 <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=Mysite\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=mydbase; Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
renders a 500 internal server error, and cannot decipher where the crux of the problem could be; everything seems consistent between both IIS settings. Should I be using name="LocalSqlServer" instead of "SiteSqlServer"
???

In SQL Server, did you grant dbowner permission for your database to the ASP.Net user (which is configured in Advanced Settings of the IIS Application Pool, the IIS website resides in)?

Thanks, the IUSRS user has full control, so that should be the correct grant to all objects, yes?

I am not sure, I usually grant permission specifically to the ASP.NET user
