HElP! This is driving me insane. Granted it's only been a couple of months since I've dived in headfirst into the DNN abyss, but I keep getting hung up on little things that used to be easy back when I did things the manual html way. Enough whining... Anyhoo, it's about spacing on the menu. We finally got the dropmenus to work as we want them. Whoooo! But now there's the spacing between the items on a horizontal menu that doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason. Here's the link: http://198.65.16.12/dnn435/Default.aspx.  Oh, and does it help that the spacing is even more whacky when you first hit the page than after you hit refresh? What would cause this? Pretty please with sugar and whipped cream and a diamond ring on top! I'll be glad to supply my css classes for the menu if it would help.... or my first born for that matter. ;-) Well, nah, not really. She's kinda cute. I think I'll keep her.

You'll likely find that it's Firefox that has the spacing issues whilst IE looks fine. If you look closely at the page you're reading this post on, you'll see that the spacing of menu at the top is completely different between Firefox and IE. I see it all the time on DNN sites and have brought it up previously for no result. I understand that the move is towards the replacement DNN menu, but I have had the same problem with that as well.

So I'm afraid I haven't got an answer for you other than that you're in good company because even DNN's own homepage does it.

I think it might be good practice to size every level of the menu accurately in all states with width and height values. That can minimise the problem to just a space here and there at root-level and that's what I've done on the site that started this off for me.

Let me know if you sort it out.

hmm.. I've just had a further fiddle with your site and it becomes rather obvious that the problem is because of the little menu arrows that we usually hide from display becoz they uggly.

Try viewing your site with no default/skin/portal css at all and you'll see the menus display perfectly-spaced with the little arrows in place. I'm betting that letting them display for all levels at all times will fix the issue. Then it would be a matter of replacing the arrows with blue or possibly transparent ones to make them vanish against the menu background.

I'll try it myself next time I do a horizontal menu.
