I did a fresh install of DNN 4.4.0 on my site today and set up a dummy user that is just a regular user so I could test things out.  The dummy user has a separate email account from the admin one, actually it is not on the domain the site is and not on the server the site is.

When I try to send out the newsletter, the module gives me the OK message at the top of the screen and sends an email to the admin account letting me know that the number of copies sent, which at this time is 2, 1 for the admin and 1 for the dummy user.  The admin account also gets a copy of the newsletter but my dummy user does not.

When I look in my log file, I find an error stating that InnerException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: <dummy user email account> No such user here

Has anyone had this issue with the newsletter module giving this error on an existing functional email account?

IMO this is an error returned by the recipients mail server - if you use a dummy user for testing newsletters, make sure, you use a valid email address.

I am using a valid email account, I just didn't want to publish which accounts I had been trying on the dummy user.

Each valid email account I have tried using on the dummy or test  user is one that I can email successfully from the email account of the domain name so I know that the email/domain name is not being blocked by the valid receiving email accounts.

There seems to be an email problem all the way around not only with the newsletter but with verified registration as well.  I am receiving pratically the same error on both accounts.  Below are some verified registration attempts, the errors that I received, and the emails that I sent directly from my email account on the domain name to each email address to prove it does exist.

Here is the error that I get when I try to register my test user with a valid yahoo email address:

But the yahoo account is a valid account as demonstrated by the message below that I sent to it from my irarichardsmith.net email account:

This is the error message that I receive when I try to register my user with a valid HotMail account:

But the HotMail account does exist because the below email is the message I sent from my irarichardsmith.net email account directly to the HotMail account:

The error message below is what I get when I try to register my test user with a valid BellSouth email account:

But the BellSouth account does exist as shown by the email below that I sent to the account directly from my irarichardsmith.net email account:

Just providing some additional data to see if this might help resolve the situation.

I performed one more test.  I created a new email account on the domain name my DNN site is hosted on, irarichardsmith.net, and used this new email address as the email address of the test user for verified registration/newsletter purposes.  The DNN configuration was left the same as before, the only thing different is that the target email of the user registering is on the same domain name as the site.

In this test, the emails came through to the test user account.  So there is something that is making DNN behave like an intranet system in looking at the domain name it hosts but not going beyond that when trying to validate email addresses.

Perhaps I have missed something in the configuration and setup of DNN, I have done some review of the setup and so far I am not seeing anything that would impact it in this manner.  Any thoughts on what might be causing this behavior?
