I would like to place a second manu/navigation bar on top of our site including some external links and some internal links like Home, Imprint, etc. So that the main navigation leads to the content and the small top navigation includes some service links. The design/skin should be fixed so that the administrators can only add or change links.

How would that be realized with DNN skins?

Hi Jens,

i have realized such form of a 'Meta-Navigation' simply by using the HTML-Module.
You could also use the Links Module instead. Both works fine for me.
Just place the Module on each Page of the Site.

Hi Frank,

thank you for your answer. As we will implement our Intranet consisting of hundrets of pages with DNN and having content owners and publishers who have to be able to work with DNN, the workaround to put a links or HTML module on each page separately is not an optimal solution. Every content owener/publisher who creates a new page would have to create a new links/html module and add exactly the same links; if one link changes we would have to change hundrets of pages etc. As the meta navigation is an overall-global navigation there should be a solution where the links are stored at one central point just like the normal solpart menu..

Hi Jens,

I have been doing a fiar bit of research into this topic for our main site, and think the HTML module could work well if you just specify this module and its content via a portal template XML file which would specify the exact content of this module when a new page is created using that template. you could also lock down that modules content using permissions so everday users wouldnt be able to alter that link content.

Something to think about.

Hi Ket,

thanks for your response. If I understand you right, this would mean, that our Administrators cannot change the metanavigation links with the CMS and some textboxes, but would have to change the XML file, right? At the moment, I have hardcoded the metanavigation into the skin.html which finally (and if I understand you right) would be the same (changing an XML file vs. changing an HTML file).

If I don't understand you right, could you please explain a little more detailled? Maybe your idea is a good solution for our requirement.

Thanks in advance.
