I was looking over the forums for a good tutorial on how to skin and found something that peaked my interest here

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/B...

How do I access the skin page in 6.1? when I go in under the host menu in 6.1 there is only extensions and site settings su under site settings when I try to use index it tells me that the file "index.html is incorrect" so I figure since I am using IIS maybe it needs to be set to default so I try to set it to default.html I get the same error. Will this tutorial not work for me? can someone point me in the right direction? many thanks in advance

default skin files are located inside /portals/_default/skins/skinname folder.

i was able to locate the skin folder and place index.html in the folder as the tutorial suggested. The trouble came when I wanted to convert it to an ascx file for dot net nuke version 6.1.5. The tutorial instructions are "to access the skins page under the admin menu and upload the skin to convert index.html to index.ascx". Well, when I try to select index.html and upload it I get the error "invalid file type".

If you have it in the skins folder, go to admin --> skins, select the name of the skin folder from the populated drop down list and click "Parse skin package". This should parse/compile the skin.

Try that and see if it then becomes an valid skin for you to use.

please create a "myskin" (or whatever name your skin should have) inside the skins folder and place your files inside. name your skin file e.g. myskin.html and you should be able to parse it from Skins item in Admin menu, if being logged in as Host user.
