Hi all,

Im just starting to do some skins using the HTML and TOKEN method.

Ive designed the page, done the CSS and got all the images together. The htm is div based. Reading through the documentation there seems to be an inconsistency about how to handle your content panes. The main part of the documentation suggests using [CONTENTPANE], [CONTENTPANE:1], [CONTENTPANE:n]. Later in Appendix A it also adds token settings to the skin.xml files, giving them a unique ID.

If I create a skin with the more than one content pane with [CONTENPAIN:n] type syntax but no xml entries the skin fails to upload as it duplicates the content user control. If I include an xml file with the name settings for the content panes the skin uploads but If I select the entire portal/site crashes and it tells me it can no longer find the default.aspx file..??! I have to enter through a parent site and delete the skin before it will work again.

Also after I have uploaded a skin then deleted it I can no longer upload skins, it just adds the file but does nothing when I click the upload skin link, jumps straight back to the skin screen without uploading or parsing the ZIP.

Finally none of the images are shown under the skin/container menues. You can click on the image and see it full sizes and if I select the skin or preview the skin the image suddenly appears.

Any help with these issues greatly appreciated.

[CONTENPAIN:n]

That is a typo - It's called CONTENTPANE so how about rectifying that error and seeing how you go.

Or was that an error in your forum post?

Hi there,

Yes it was a typo in the post, they are correctly spelt on the skin. If I just use one content pane token in the skin htm everything is good. Its only when I try to have multiple content panes. If I do [CONTENTPANE:n] in the htm but do not enter any details in the xml file the skin fails, if I enter the details in the xml file (as in the appendix of the skinning documentation) the skin crashes the portal!

Im using 4.3.0.

Thanks all
Rolf

I am having the same issues with creating skins for DNN4.  I, too, am using <div>s and CSS to do my layout, which works fine (and is more standards-compliant than tables and helps with text-readers, pdas, etc.).  My problem is I can't figure out how to designate 3 separate content panes (LeftPane, CenterPane, RightPane).  I've tried it exactly as kangarolf has with bad results (not even consistent results with page refreshes).  Can someone show us the exact syntax in an HTML/TOKEN skin + skin.xml file?  Thanks so much.

As to your upload issues, I have noticed problems when I try to upload a module or skin file from a folder buried deep on my HDD (e.g., c:\sub folder1\sub folder2\sub folder3\dnn\dnn skins\skin.zip).  Moving it to something like c:\subfolder1\ seems to have remedied that for me.
