I would like to add some parameters at the portal level which I can then get access to in various modules.  According to Koders.com PortalSettings has methods UpdatePortalSettings, GetPortalSettings, GetSiteSettings, and GetModuleSettings.

The comments in UpdatePortalSetting give the impression that it will create a setting.  However, I can't figure out how to get the value back.  GetPortalSettings looks like it only returns the DNN defined settings.  GetSiteSettings looks like it returns all the settings for a module "site settings" which is what UpdatePortalSettings seems to be dealing with.

Can anyone provide me with a specific recommendation?

To add a new setting to that table you will be required to modify the methods in the core that add/retreive the data

Hi Jeff, where did you find the links to PortalSettings on Koders.com? I wasn't aware that we were indexing the DotNetNuke source. We want to, but it's a bit tricky because each release URL is different and we'd have to keep updating the location in our index.

Mitchel:

Thanks for the response.  Turns out this works.  I have to admit I am not sure what is going on.  The routines I wanted to use are public in all the code I see, but I can't get a reference to them from PortalSettings.  However, I copied the code into routines of my own and they seem to work.  I don't understand the DNN DB structure so I am not certain this is a robust solution, but will keep playing with it.

Thanks again,

jeff landry

Phil:

I did a google search for some combination of routine names hoping I would find some comments on the routines and up popped http://www.koders.com/info.aspx?c=ProjectInfo&pid=QC7PT4BQPAHMAMN1KYBEAPL7FH.  It was pretty handy.  However, I can't really figure out what the idea behind Koders really is.

Thanks,

jeff landry
