I am working on a module that needs to force a password on an existing user to be a specific value.

I hae a UserInfo object with the users informaton however I cannot find out how to update the account.

I see a .Membership.Password property but setting it doesn't do anything.

I do not necessarily know the users last password.  Is there a way to set their new password to a specific value?

You need something like this function in c#

        public bool ChangePassword(UserInfo user, String oldPassword, String newPassword, bool isAdmin)
        {
            if (user != null)
            {
                if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(newPassword) && oldPassword != null)
                {
                    if ((UserController.ValidatePassword(newPassword)) &&
                           ((isAdmin && oldPassword == "") || oldPassword.Length > 0) &&
                           ((isAdmin && oldPassword == newPassword) || (oldPassword != newPassword)))
                    {
                        try
                        {
                            UserController.ChangePassword(user, oldPassword, newPassword);
                            return true;
                        }
                        catch (Exception ex)
                        {
                            //do something
                        }
                    }
                    else
                    {
                        //do something
                    }
                }
                else
                {
                    //do something
                }
            }
            else
            {
                //do something
            }
            return false;
        }

The result depends on the membership provider.
If you don't know the user password and you are admin, try String.Empty as oldPassword.

I was trying to use "" as the old password for the user and I receive an "invalid password" error message.

Are you unable to get the current password for a user? I have code that does this in the IWeb module.
