I'm just starting to get into the dnn world with a crash course over the past couple of days. I'm working on a project where i think i should be able to build on top of dnn. But I'd like some dnn expert guidance on some issues. Some pointers on whrere to look/start would be very much appreciated

1. I need a way to allow the content editor to pick containers for content panes. How can I accomplish this?

2. In a content pane, is it possible to have both static and dynamic content (ie, html and custom aspx user control code)

for eg, the content page html might be something like:

<p>this is some static text</p>
<myUC:doSomething someParam="value" /> <!-- ascx user control -->
<p>some more static html text</p>

 - One way to accomplish this would be to create an aspx page with the custom user control and reference that page using an iframe perhaps. But this means I'd have to have an aspx page for all my user controls - which is not something I want to do. Any better way to do this? I know dnn does some sophisticated injection logic...is that something I can use here? Is so, whre do I look to get a feel for how to do this?

Thanks

Andy

Thanks

1. Make the content editors administrators of the portal and they can pick the containers for the content panes and create and edit static content. See: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Documentation/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/Default.aspx

2. For  Dynamic content, create a DotNetNuke module. see: DotNetNuke® Module Development Help Website

Couldn't you put your static content in the skin and use multiple contenpanes if needed?

Like this

    <div> static content</div>
    <div id="contenpane" runat="server">

<div> more static content</div>
    <div id="secondcontenpane" runat="server">

<div> more static content</div>
    <div id="thirdcontenpane" runat="server">

I mean, why should the static content be in the contentpane...? The contentpane is for dynamic content...

If you want to be able to edit the "static content" you could put this in a contentpane too and only give the admin edit rights

Let me clarify:

we're developing a cms app based on dnn and we need to allow the content editor to be able to pick containers for the content pane itself. This container definition cannot be part of the template. The user will pick it from a list just link picking a container for a module. How can this be done?? What Classes, namespaces are responsible for this container functionality?

Okay

First of all a container is the "box" surrounding a module and can be picked by anybody who has edit rights on that container from the modules settings.

if you assign a container to a module that container will provide the appearance of the surrounding modules box, head etc.

A content pane is a space in the skin a editor can drop a module in.
There can be multiple modules in a content pane, all with different containers if needed.
So the container normally doesn't influence the appearance of the content pane.

A template is in DNN a site / page that has been exported to XML and can be used to restore a site / page or base an new site / page on. I think you meant skin.

It might be that I don't fully understand your question, but to me it seems you are looking for existing functionality
