Hello,

I've created a custom module for polling. When users add comments to a poll, a moderation email is sent to the company admin. I achieved this through modifying the core "mail.vb" file, and creating an overloaded sendmail function. I am unsure how to reference this file on the live web server? Do I need to create a .dll containing the standard mail.vb code?

Thanks for any help,

Larry

I would avoid making changes to the core - it can cause all sorts of problems with future upgrades.

Do you really need to create a new sendmail function ?  Surely the current sendmail functions would cover most needs.

If you have made the change inside core code that is inside the Library, you would need to re-build the solution and place the modified .dll in the bin directory.

I will agree with the above post regarding avoiding core modifications, especially for something link this.  If you can't use the core "send mail" function, then simply use the core's SMTP settings and send it yourself.....I see that as a much better option than modifying the core.

Thanks all for your responses! I ended up creating a seperate .dll that contained the specific admin mailer functionality. I then added it as a reference. I changed the core code back to its original state per your advice. ;)
