I noticed that the install of DNN 4.5 has .vb files in it. I don't want to deploy any source code to my web. Ho can I completely compile it and install that?

The other reason I want to do that is because you can install any custom module into the uncompiled version (see my other recent post)

DNN 4.5 is built around the concept of dynamic compiling - as such - compiling the core is
really not a good idea - and the bits that need to be compilled already are.

Why would you really want to compile the vb code - its not like its proprietry - its a free download off the neet.

However - If you really wanted to you could do a site compile in Visual Studio
 - then manually install all the DLL's that the compile builds onto your LIVE server bin file.
Then go thru and delete all the .vb files ...

Do be aware however that this can lead to potential versioning issues ...

But again to what real point - this wont stop modules being installed.
You could still install custom modules on a compiled site - what more most custom modules are compiled anyway.

If the point of all this is to stop users installing custom modules - just set module install to HOST only - and dont
give anyone the HOST password.

Please see my two other posts:

Primarily: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/111/threadid/169676/scope/posts/Default.aspx

And: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/111/threadid/169804/scope/posts/Default.aspx

You'll see why I need to do this. It appears that you can't install a compiled module in version 4.x.

SaxInJax,

I don't know what causes your trouble, all I can tell you that I am writing source only 4.x modules all the days. They always install fine and I never run into your issues.

I have something like 100 custom modules running on numerous 4.5.5 sites every day of the week without a single issue.
