I am working on a new tutorial. Please help test this new module that shows how to implement grouping using the ListView control.

I am looking for any errors or success installing and using the module. Please report back on this thread.

You need to install asp.net 3.5 and add the proper keys to the web.config BEFORE installing the module. Please only install on a development server. The directions to add the keys and the link to the module are available here:

Thanks!

Michael,

I ran into an issue when making the changes to the web.config -- even though I do have the 3.5 Framework installed. I should point out too that this is my first experience with any of the 3.5 goodness.....so that is surely why I experienced this problem now.

Parser Error: Child Notes Not Allowed

The issue does not seem to be related to DotNetNuke or this module or anything of that nature, but with my development environment in general.  Here is an asp.net forum thread that explains the problem and what looks to be the solution: Simple web site problem on Vista, related to <providerOption>

I was about to download the DVD again from MSDN so that I could test it out today, but I decided I'll just wait and use the DVD that I have already at work!

I hope that helps anyone else out there that has this issue/bug/challenge with their development environment when they try using .NET 3.5 for the first time.

Take care,

Ian

ooochh! Thank you for this. I am going to add a link to that post on my tutorials.

Let me know how it goes once you get it working. I know you guys at Engage are already up on the latest stuff. The difference I'm seeing with the ListView is that it provides almost all the functionality that you would normally create a server control to do. The grouping provided by the LinqDataSource is nice but the "exciting stuff" is the flexibility of the ListView. I think we will see some really exciting interfaces in the coming months as people start to use the LIstView more. The example I posted will seem really "dated" in about 6 months.
