I'm working on a module that will need to support several thousand names. In some cases I need to link names with other tables. The "traditional" way of doing taht would be to have a drop-down box with the list of people. With thousands of names that's impractical. What I want is to have a "search, select" capability where you enter the name and it presents a list of matches (this is currently the case on the main screen, using soundex). What I was is to do that same search on a page where I have other maintenance going on, and I need to search for a name to do the cross link.

Suggections, examples, would be apprciated.
