Hi Folks,

I got this error after upgrading from DNN 4.09.05 to 5.01.04 using the upgrade zip file not the install file. My log shows the following:

aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 5780) was recycled because it failed to respond to ping message.

Faulting application aspnet_wp.exe, version 2.0.50727.3082, stamp 492b8702, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, stamp 49c4f482, debug? 0, fault address 0x00012afb.

This is a test site on my local machine where I am using IIS 5.1. I have .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed along with the latest hot fixes. Just prior to this I had upgraded two test sites to DNN 4.09.05. Both sites ran perfectly and I used the upgrade zip file. The one I didn’t try to upgrade to 5.01.04 still runs OK.

There is another post on this site indicating this error titled "DNN 5.0.1 to DNN 5.1.2 upgrade error: Server Application Unavailable". My interpretation of this post is that this error has something to do with custom modules. Did I understand correctly? I am still using VS 2005. Do I have to do some recompiling with VS 2008? I tried the quick fix of running aspnet_regiis.exe – i but it did not work. I am kind of lost on this one. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
G. M.

More Info - I have been using IIS Diagnostics to try to run this problem down. So far I have found nothing wrong with the aspnet_wp.exe process even though the above error from Win Event Log seems to indicate a problem. I'll keep at it but I could use some help on this one. Any suggestions?

These are the same issues I was seeing and it was caused by entries in the webconfig file to support custom modules I developed that accessed data in other databases check my post http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/337015/scope/posts/Default.aspx and see if it applies to your module setups.

Thanks, Jack. I am going to follow what you did and see if it solves my problem because I am doing some of the same things you are with respect to databases. Just two general questions. Are you using VS2005 or VS2008? Any recommended documentation or books? I just bought the two DNN 5 books (one on modules) and the new user's guide.

Thanks, Jack.

Although I have a new issue with this upgrade, your recommended changes worked to get me out of this problem.
