hi everyone

I am new to DNN, I read a lot about creating modules. i found some docs which tells about creating modules in dnn 3, we can use codesmith to generate code for sqldataprovider and all other files.

Now in DNN 4 when i select "new item" and select DNN Module it creates files necessary to create a DNN 4 Module.

But in DNN 4 after creating a module. how can i generate code for those. and is it necessary to have ModuleID and DateCreated, UserID fields etc. in Table which DNN 4 creates ??

For Example i wana generate a page which will Add, Delete, Update and View "Customer" Data. i have a table with

CustID  identity seed, Name varchar, Address varchar, Mobile varchar.

Now how can i generate code for SqlDataProvider, BLL, DataProvider etc.

I want to create this simple web page of addition, modification and deletion. i have read all about adef scripts as well but that copy and paste a lot so....

Please Help.

Thanx

how can i generate code

focusing on the word 'generate', as of right now you cannot...    I am beta testing the new version of http://www.frentonline.com/Products/DNNTools/DNNKickStart/tabid/124/Default.aspx  right now and will give feedback soon.

this and this are good reads...  maybe not completely specific to VWD ..  still good reads.   I have a good feeling generator tools/templates will make their way out in a week or so..  I hope...

Thanx for your help Guyz, I have read all these articles, But i am still confused, I was successful in making a new module, but my confusion is.

When we create a new module say i create it with dnnkickstart it will give me Edit, Add, Delete options for content. These options are for Administrator or a Normal Registered user of the website.

My Point is when i logon as admin then i can edit the module Add, update or delete content on module. But i want to create a normal webpage where user can login and do their operations, say i wana create a shopping cart. Now in that case a user can login and Add, Edit or Delete item to the cart.

Does somebody knows any example which can show me how to create a simple website may be 3-4 pages for the user to act upon them after loggin in.

I understood how to create a module even i made one. But the code it provides is for the admin user. Instead of a normal user. isnt it ?? I think i am confused between the users of DotNetNuke Website and the users who are gonna access the website for their operations.

I dont think so i will be able to understand with the examples of core modules so kindly help me out.

Thanx and regards

Amit

You manage that through the page and module permissions.   Yes, some code generators put some checks in there for admin rights and that is simply wrong.. I had to take that out.  (I think ATGen does that..)

I would not try to create your own shopping cart modules though..  either try what is now included or buy something...    way too much effort to do yourself...
