First, you do not have to install the source version nor compile the module to use it! For testing, you should use the Install package and follow ONLY the chapter 3 from the post you mentioned.

The Store module has been tested with dnn 4.4.1., 4.9.4 and 5.1.2 without any problem. My computer is a small one (Pentium M 1.6 Ghz, 2MB, XP Pro SP3, IIS5, SQL Server 2000) and the module works. Can you give more details about your comptuer and how many products and categories you have?
