I have my own server running several DNN installs.  One of the installs has 2 portals and I cannot log into either of them using credentials that worked just fine until yesterday.

I try my host account, it gives the error "Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive" I get the same message for both admin usernames on both portals.

So I detached my database and renamed the database files.  I restored from backup a database from 2 days ago when things were definately good.  I still could not log in.  So I went back to the newest version of the database, rebooted my server (after many times restarting the IIS).  I still have the same problem, I cannot log into any portal as admin or host.

I do have full access to the database and I have been looking in the event log table but it does not tell me why LOGIN_FAILURE.

If I use the request password feature on the site, I get this message: "There was an error retrieving your password. No password was sent."

Could there be a caching issue? Would the cache no be cleared with a reboot?

I am running 4.5.0  Perhaps I should try upgrading to 4.5.1?

Looking at my EventLog table, I see a lot of GENERAL_EXCEPTION Errors.  The Stack Trace looks says this:

System.Web.HttpException: Could not load type ''. ---> System.ArgumentException: String cannot have zero length.
at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetType(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateType(String TypeName, String CacheKey, Boolean UseCache, Boolean IgnoreErrors)

The application keeps shutting down adn restarting as well.

No login attempts were made between the time I quit working on the site until the next day when I tried to go in again.

Did you make any changes to the site?  ANy upgrades??

Also, you cannot request host account passwords via the "Forgotten password" functionality due to security reasons.

The last time I was in... about 20-hours ago, I added a couple modules to a couple pages.  I did not install any new modules or do any upgrades.  Looking at my eventlog table, I can see where I added the modules at abouty 9:40PM.  I went to bed at 10PM.  There were no events until 1AM where there was a General Exception:

System.Web.HttpException: Could not load type ''. ---> System.ArgumentException: String cannot have zero length.
at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetType(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateType(String TypeName, String CacheKey, Boolean UseCache, Boolean

That general exception happend 2 or 3 times at about the same time and then no events until the morning when I tried to log in.  All day long there are events just like the one above.

I can also see events where I try to log in and where I try to request a password.  I am using an Admin account for request password.

Mike
