Hi,

I am dealing with a virus/spyware... The site that I am visiting often (Like this one) became off'line. It is not a dotnetnuke.com problem. I am pretty sure that is my computer....

I dont know if it's a new virus... I also do not know how to solve it... I running severals antivirus, but nothing happends...

My configuration is Windows Vista Ultimate, IE7, FF2.

to solve the problem I clear the cache, delete the cookies, wait a while... and the site became available most of the sites...but later on... offline again...

any ideas?

Regards,

What error message do you get?  Do you get 404 errors? or another error?

Different kind of errors... Is like the 'system' block the URL. The IE7, or FF2 don't even try to load the page, they say the site is not available. Yesterday night I was able to see some pages, but not thw WindowsUpdate.com.... so for sure I got a virus/spyware  and I am not able to remove it...

I had a fresh Windows Vista Ultimate Installation WITH NO ANTIVIRUS!!!!.
Now I have one, but cannot find anything...

Regards,
Alfonso

Let me first say that I do not have experience with Vista first hand, but with that said, I want to ask you, have you confirmed with a virus scanning tool for Vista that the machine is indeed infected?  If you have, then you have to clean it up first, with virus tools specifically for Vista, since the whole architecture that virus tools use to hook up to the O/S changed.  If you have not confirmed with 100% of certainty that you do have a virus, I would recommend you to run virus scanning before continuing the DNN troubleshooting.  If you confirm that you do not have a virus, then we can take another approach, with all the new stuff in Vista I wouldn't be surprised if your machine is clean and it is just an overzealous security setting.

In any case, check your Hosts file.  One trick some viruses and trojans use is to modify this file to redirect common helpful Web sites like Windowsupdate, virus manufacturers, etc. to prevent you from cleaning up the machine.  This is unlikely in Vista, even without virus protection, but is worth the try.  The Hosts file is a text file with no extension located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\".  The default Hosts file has basically only one active line that looks like "127.0.0.1 localhost".  Any other entries for commercial web sites would be suspicions and would need to be deleted.  See this link for info on editing the Hosts file in Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923947.

If your computer is indeed infected with the virus that runs with ring 0 (or whatever it's called; like a driver) privileges it's virtually impossible even for the best antivirus software to clean it (even if it recognizes the virus).

So take out your harddrive, go to your friend's place, connect the harddrive to his/her computer (need I say DO NOT run anything from your harddrive?), download and run antivirus.
