I created a sitemap.xml file and ftp'd it to my portals root folder. It exists at www.mydomain.com/portals/2/sitemap.xml. Then I use Google's webmaster tools to submit my sitemap, by pasting the URL listed above. Google doesn't like this address and want's it to be www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml.

My question is what is the best approach for submitting sitemaps to google, escpecially if you have child or multiple parent portals?

Thx!

If you're using the latest DNN, do like it says and use http://yourdomain.sitemap.xml

DNN automatically generates the file for each each portal and it's already there in your root. Make sure you have both www and non-www aliases for your domain listed in the Admin Site Settings, otherwise Google can have trouble with it.

There are one or two alternatives around. BTB's Google sitemap includes blog posts in the map.

I haven't yet upgraded to 4.5.x, so can't talk about the new sitemap stuff. But, I do have my DNN site (4.4.1) in a sub-folder and am using the BTB module. My solution is to use a sitemapindex.xml file pointing google, et al, to the BTB sitemap file, as below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
   <sitemap>
      <loc>http://www.valintus.com/dnnprod/btbgooglesitemap.axd</loc>
   </sitemap>
</sitemapindex>

Seems to work OK.

I am having the same issue and I am using the latest dnn 4.5.1 and I don't see anything about mydomain.sitemap.xml ??

There is mydomain.com/sitemap.aspx ... is that what you meant?

If not please explain..

Mike.

in Dnn 4.5.1 it is mydomain,com/sitemap.aspx

if you open it you should get a list of all the pages the current user as permission to view. so when google accesses the link it will only get the publicly available pages.
