Have you ever had the problem when looking at modules for sale that they are just 1 feature short of what you're looking for? Right now I am searching for the perfect photo album / gallery module. I am currently using simple gallery. I love several features of this module, but would like some others. I have seen other moduls for sale, but, well,.................. you know the story.

Yes, I have ran into this problem many times myself.  THat is why I have resorted to coming up with my own solutions.

We ended up using Ventrian Simple Gallery. It had all the base features we were looking for

Unlimited Sub Albums
Zip Uploads
Automatic Thumbnailing
For 29 bucks it also included the source with which we used to strap it to a flash movie and greybox (Still working on that part) It uses a tokenized templating system which we have also hacked up a bit (added a handful of new tokens).

The site is still under development but its looking pretty good see

The sad thing is the whole suite of tools was $29 and we bought the package for the News Module. It wasn't until I almost punched out my computer screen dealing with the core gallery that I gave the gallery module a try.

I'm actually happy using biz-modules.net ultra photo gallery, which I think has been renamed ultra media gallery.
