We are trying to design a portal for hosting different vendors, which all should have their own one or two pages to show their product news, just like a Trade Fair.
Individual News should then go into a monthly newsletter.
Before we start coding: is there any existing module which could be used? Or could it be accomplished with DNN standard modules alone?

Well, I was thinking about this - I did a site here - http://www.tulsatechfest.com last year - it was for a technical tradeshow - and it had already been started and I sort of changed it around a bit using the http://www.ventrian.com articles module which is simply an amazing module when you get to understand how to manipulate it around the pages.

I've got it action here as well - http://www.foodweek.com.au but we also did some tricks to the skins and containers to make it look and behave as we wanted.

The key to doing something like this is to plan out what modules to use, and how to create fast to replicate pages, which allow you keep uniformity, not have too many modules to manage.

There is also the range of modules from http://www.dotnetjedi.com which I've used and skinned to make into cool looking solutions - so what you need to do is look for a moduel that allows manipulation and some form of templating infrastructure to allow you to get the look and feel you are after.

Does DNN have all the solutions, maybe not but knowing what modules are around and how to manipulate them will take you alot further.

Check those two out at least and see if it's what you're after.

Thanks a lot.  Knowing what other modules are around can save you a lot of work and headaches.
But none module, so far as i know, has the functionality we need. Surely, however, the ventrian module leeds in the right direction, with the "myArticles" option. Combined with the Modules from Jedi we could be there. Maybe I'll give it a try and see if i can adapt it to my needs.
We need to
- show only the articles for one company (but also some more structured info like contact info and dates. And there could be up to 1000 Exhibitors)
- give edit rights to these articles exclusively to the company itself (and the admin)

Back to Ventrian again, but you might consider using Property Agent.  I have used it for many different things, it is quite astounding what you can do with this module once you learn what it is all about.  It has the search functions that you need to handle your large number of exhibitors, you can give permissions to vendors to add and edit their own listings and you may even be able to integrate it with other ventrian modules including News Articles and Private Messages.

Boats for sale: www.marina.ca go to sales and you will see Property agent to sell boats

Cottages for rent:  www.ivylea.ca uses Property Agent for Cottages for rent and Boats for Sale

Classified Ads: www.barriethunderclassics.com Uses property agent for Classified ads and for Member Rides

I am also using it to manage a Public Complaints Records datbase but I cannot show that one.
