Guys I told you this one before, but you would not listen.

A hosted DNN, failing a DB connection will show this:

Unhandled Error

Error Details

File
Error   Cannot open database requested in login 'LexDomini'. Login fails. Login failed for user 'dandrade'.

Now, I am going to leave message as it came out. WHAT THE HECK, EVERYONE TRYING TO CONNECT IS SEEING IT ANYWAY. AND, YOU MAY EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM SOMEDAY, SOMETIME.

What can you see above, DATABASE NAME AND USERNAME.

Hurra, hackers unite, destroy that site.

DNN TEAM PLEASE CHANGE THAT ERROR MESSAGE, AND DO NOT TELL ME TO USE A CUSTOMERRORS DEFAULTREDIRECT, because I have that setting and doesn't work.

On another line, if someone is interested, site is in WH4L. I have told them the same thing and my site have been up and down experiencing this problem for a week now.

Do I sound desperate? YOU BET. I provide services for LAWYERS, they are going to eat my ***

Do you have CustomErrors set to RemoteOnly in your web.config file?

I have looked through your previous forum posts, Gemini bug tracker and the security@dotnetnuke.com emails and don't see any record of this problem being reported.  I would like to find out where our communication channels are breaking down, so if you wouldn't mind pointing me at the previous communication, I would appreciate it.

As for the error:  What version of DNN are you running?  In a clean install of DNN 4.5.3, whenever I disable the connection to the database I am re-directed to the following page:

Please provide any additional information about the steps needed to re-create this problem as I am unable to see the behavior you are reporting.

AFAIR that issue was fixed back in late 2005/early 2006. The issue only existed for one or two versions of dotnetnuke . In addition, it required the connectionstring being in a different order from the one supplied, as when the error happened, it tryed to parse out some details that were safe to show. However, if the connection string used attributes in a different order than the default, it could reveal details (as in your case) Please upgrade your portal to a recent version, as there have been a number of security issues raised that your portal is likely to be vulnerable to http://www.dotnetnuke.com/News/SecurityBulletins/tabid/940/Default.aspx

The error message you are seeing is the deafult ASP.NET error message.  If you have custom errors set to "RemoteOnly" users will NOT see that message!
