Hi, calling DNN experts.

I am wondering if it is possible to set up a number of separate sites that share content. To explain - I have a client whose business is split across a number of different brands and websites which all offer the same products and services. It's a lot like a franchise. The only thing that changes is the branding and address/contact details. Oh, and also some brands offer additional services/products. Most of the content is identical except where the company/brand name is mentioned in the text - which should be replaced with the respective company/brand. (I hope this is making sense). Each site has its own logo and  some have a different colour scheme.

Rather than copying the text and product info into each site it would make sense to share it across all the sites. This would make updates much easier to manage and avoid data duplication.

I was just about to embark on building this using Classic ASP and MS SQL when I came across DNN. It looks like it could save me weeks of coding, particularly in creating the management interface for my client. However I'm not sure it can offer the functionality I'm looking for.

Has anyone done something similar to sharing content across multiple sites before?

Many thanks in advance.

Charles.

I think the best bet for this type of situation would be for you to build a custom module for the products/services display and simply store the data without an association to portal id or module id and then it would be available to all sites and you could then build skins for each site to change the general look and feel.

Thanks for the reply Mitchel.

This sounds like a good concept. If only I knew how to build a module. However, I'm sure it's not that difficult so I'll have a crack at it and see if it works for me.

If anyone out there already has a module like this or knows of something similar that I could use as a starting point I would be very grateful to see it.

If I get this to work I will post a report here and will make my module available to download - it may be of use to others.

Thanks,

Charles.

There is a module called Content Sharing (search for content sharing on Snowcovered) which will give you that exact functionality

Thanks for the tip to look at Content Sharing 2 Ethuongmai.com.

Sadly the documentation for this does not say it supports the Repository module - which, typically, is the one I'm uysing.
