I just wanted to let everyone know that I just encountered the wonderful "Object not set to a reference of an object" error message when upgrading my website from 4.5.2 to 4.6.0.  COme to find out the issue was due to the whitespace filter.

The stack trace was this

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.WhitespaceFilter.Write(Byte[] buf, Int32 offset, Int32 count) +104
System.Web.HttpWriter.Filter(Boolean finalFiltering) +251
System.Web.HttpResponse.FilterOutput() +60
System.Web.CallFilterExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +29
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64
I had to manually update the database to turn off whitespace filter to get the site up and running! Just an FYI! (I am going to try and recreate it again and then I'll log it in Gemini!)

It's already in Gemini and was one of the known outstanding bugs upon release.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the information.  DO you know if it is safe to re-enable the whitespace filter after the upgrade is complete?

Does the upgrade work properly when the whitespace filter is disabled beforehand?
