Boom!!!  LOL

When I clicked on the reply button to write this it took a little over three minutes for the page to load.

I've been a frequent poster to this thread not because it is a huge issue for me personally (it is somewhat important) but because it hurts watching the core team step on themselves. There were 1,300+ visitors on the site when I logged in - what are they thinking????  Many of them might be thinking that if the home site for the product performs so poorly what chance do they have??  Or maybe they are reading this thread and wondering why no one has replied that they are aware of a problem and are working to fix it??

So to reduce my pain a bit this is a message to all DNN visitors who might be reading this thread:  Dotnetnuke is an excellent product that performs very well. Very few DNN sites perform this poorly. Some examples (with forums) that you can check out would be:

  • www. bi4ce.com
  • www.activemodules.com
  • www.snowcovered.com (no forums but check out the speed!)

Those are just a few of the thousands of DNN sites that have excellent performance!

Greg

I'm not a Core team member but can tell you that the core is well aware of the problems are working on getting the forums fixed as fast as they possibly can. My personal belief is that part of the problem is the load on the forum (number of posters at the same time, etc.) which is difficult to duplicate in testing. Chris did beta the current release for quite awhile before he submitted it to the release process. I'm a big fan of Active Forums myself but who really knows what it would do if it got hammered as hard as this forum does.

Point well taken; but nearly all of these problems are also happening on users' personal sites, as well...with little or no traffic. I had a myriad of problems with the lists and permissions and the like on my install and I had only my test posts in the forums...no load whatsoever. It lasted 48 hours (because I really wanted to make it work) on my site before I uninstalled them). To be brutally honest, I am since learned that there's more to a great forum platform besides fancy icons. I love Will's forums nearly as much as I love the new PHPBB3 forums that were just released.  Wow is all I can say.  Simply wow. Wow.

Moreover, it also doesn't explain the lack of response from the powers to be on these matters, either...numerous emails sent in from people with an inability to post; the forums forum is often a ghost town. The problems keep surfacing and the community is told that all these known issues will be addressed in the next release, though the first one took months and months and months and months and....

I wouldn't expect a rush release getting the outstanding issues fixed at the individual level in the form of a new module release, but I would think it's in the best interest of the Corporation to at least fix their forums so they are operable and make a more positive first and lasting impressions on new people who come to see what DNN is all about.

But I digress...and come down off my soapbox about the forums.

I do love DNN and the feel the core is pretty damn slick and solid. I just think there are weakness in some of the project areas that have been known for awhile and, in the interest of the community and the entire project, should be addressed....

(ps...got the index range error when I clicked on the 6th and last page of this thread; last error I report on. You guys are going it alone from here on out). :)

Terp and his Snowcovered money stream is signing out....Good luck and god bless.

Well, my experience is that now I can actually read the Announcements forum, which I could not do before, and I can read/reply on other forums.

Soon I'll test if I can create a new post...

Thank you for fixing things, Tom
