is there anyway DNN cant notify me by email when we have new members to register?

You should already be receiving these e-mails if your SMTP settings are correct.  The only exception is if your registration is set to "Public".  In this case, I do not believe that e-mails are sent.

how can I verify or change my smtp settings, I dont see it anywhere

go to Host Settings in Host Menu :: Advanced Settings :: SMTP Settings.

When you get there, make sure you click on the test e-mail link.  This should send a test e-mail to you.  Otherwise, and error will be displayed to you.
