I'm planning on using DotNetNuke for a large amount of retail Point-of-Sale PCs. I want to reduce the amount of risk this presents by accessing the portal via these POSs.

What is the most stable version of DNN?

I am currently using 4.7.0 on the Corporate Intranet and have issues with requiring IIS resets. Sometimes the error message shows an inaccurate read of the web.config making us think there's a permissions issue. Sometimes the error is the generic DotNetNuke server error. A lot of times the errors in Event Viewer show problems with the SolPart menu or security permissions. Any ideas for that?

The current install of 4.8.1 on the development server is already presenting issues. When I tried to add a module, it hung for a while then gave me a Javascript error.

Any answer you get will be a matter of opinion based on what somebody feels is "stable", but we ran 4.5.3 on our company intranet up until last week and I upgraded it to 4.8.1; aside from that, I had ran 4.6.2 on my own websites for quite some time.  I felt as though 4.5.3 and 4.6.2 were rather stable and, other than having to make a couple tweaks in 4.8.1 (Chris Hammond posted a blog about removing the ScriptManager errors -- I followed his advice and have eliminated those issues 100%), it has been stable so far as well.

Great, thanks for your response. I kind of expected a less than concrete answer... but, I'd like to use the most updated version if possible. I was just disappointed in the issues I was having in a stripped portal. I uninstalled several modules for simplicity... and like I said adding simple items or even trying to delete modules cause the site to hang sometimes. Hopefully Chris' blog will help with those. I'll look for it now...

Thanks again!

Anyone else have your 2 cents to give?

I was going to open a thread like this one. I am going to start a serious project and I do not know if using the latest or something not so late but more stable.

Anyone knows which is the latest stable release (no adding new features, just fixing bugs)?

Thank you

I am personally using 4.6.2 for my business sites.

At my day job I am using 4.7.0 but will go to  4.8.1 soon.

I just haven't found a true need to upgrade my business site from 4.6.2 as it is working so well.
