Hi there,

My client has DNN 3.x and we are having a major problem with the transaction log. It is filling up rather quickly (less than an hour at times). I have increased the size of the DB to 1 gig with a ratio of 80/20 (80% for the transaction log). I purge the log using DDCC Shrinkfile and when I check back ten minutes later it is already over 40 MB (up from 3!). WIthin about two hours or less it is over 700 MB! We have tried everything and have verified that the DB is configured correctly with no dice.

Any ideas? Is it being hacked possibly? I have noticed it fills in 20 MB increments.

Thanks,

Paul Norwood

transaction log accumulates changes to the database, i.e. you need to identify, which changes are made that frequently (e.g. to site log).

The most likely candidate for your problems is one of these three tables:

- dnn_EventLog

- dnn_ScheduleHistory

- dnn_SiteLog

The event log contains all of the exception,

If one of these three tables is the cause of the transaction log filling so fast what is a possible solution?

Well you need to work out the problem - is there a component installed wrong, a configuration error, a module that keeps creating exceptions?  The solution will depend on the diagnosis.

However, you may want to disable the site log, drop some items from the DNN scheduler and check your event log settings.  First identify the problem table then look at solutions.
