Somehow, I missed the "What's New" admin menu.   New to 4.9?  Whatever release, can anyone point me to Gemini where this is listed?

I've seen questions on how to remove Solutions Explorer (or hide it).  Not sure if I've seen answers.

How do I remove these two from Admin menu?    The entire idea of not having 'DotNetNuke' displayed everywhere is slowly eroding.   I thought that is part of the use license....  yet it's forced on you in other ways?

admin menu will be a configurable menu (like the rest of the site now) in DNN 5

Thanks for that info.

The other questions remain...   specifically, is the What's New a complete surprise to everyone?  Or was this a documented feature.

It would be nice to know what Portal Admins are going to see...   a little warning.

Shock horror it's in the changelog:

I guess we should have had a what's new module earlier .

In 4.9, this tab may be hidden with the following SQL:

UPDATE Tabs SET IsVisible = 0 WHERE TabName = 'What''s New' AND PortalId = @PortalId

Perhaps obviously, substitute @PortalId for the target portal in question.  You may also omit the latter condition if you wish to render the page invisible across all portals, as:

UPDATE Tabs SET IsVisible = 0 WHERE TabName = 'What''s New'

Note that this query will perform more liberally than intended if your installation has existing tabs with the title "What's New," so proceed with caution.
