Just ran across a huge deal from someone who needs money on a 64 bit machine running XP Pro x64. I'll probably buy it but it seems a bit much for a dev machine. Got another one that is 2.6ghz P4 basic machine running regular XP Pro that seems better suited for the job.

Just thought it would be interesting to see what types of machines / OS's people were using for their DNN development machine.  What are the specs on your dev machine?

Here are the specs on my dev machine.

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5Ghz
6 Gb Ram
Vista Enterprise 64-Bit
600Gb hard drive space

From a video standpoint, I run dual 22" widescreen LCD's....

I also have a test server that gets used for some development.

TO be honest, i would never use XP for a dev machine, as it is a major PITA to run multiple websites off of it, which is quite a usefull feature of vista. Also.. in xp you get IIS 5.1, in Vista you get IIS7, which is identical to the IIS in windows 2008...

if you are developing web sites on WinXP,  XP Pro IIS Admin is a handy tool to run and switch between multiple sites

true.. but it won't allow you to run those sites concurrently... which is fine if you only work on a few projects and not concurrently... otherwise it is still a nuisance to switch contexts all the time.

Having said that: i am in the process of switching from Vista 32 to Vista 64 and Vista 32 running on a virtual machine that holds my development envionment. THe reason for that is that that makes making backups a lot easier, and moving to a different machine will be a breeze
