I have a requirement such as this,

I have a word document in the server side which is there to be modified regularly by the developers. When users log into the web site, I'll provide a link to download that particular page from the server which is neigther copyrighted nor protected at the server side. But when the users download the document, What I require is that, the downloada document to be copyrightd and protected so that the users can only view the downloaded document, even thay can't copy or cut and paste the contents to their own word documents.I came across that a documents can be made to such conditions through the supplied tools by the MS Word, but what I need is to do that when the file is downloading through the web.

Can anybody plz :) help me this matter.

Regards,

This is a slippery slope as there are always ways around any prevention.

Probably the best approach would to PDF the file and make it un editable.  Or convert to the file to an image so they can't copy and paste text out of it.

Doing this on download seems to be the wrong approach to me.  I think it would be much easier to do this sort of thing before you post the file to the website.

As Stuart mentions I would recommend doing the protection on the saving of the uploaded file.  Just be sure that you fully understand the actual "security" behind the various methods of storage.

This may not seem like help, but take a pdf of said page and mail it to yourself (physically mail it)  Then when you receive it, do not open,  it is your proof with a postmark

It may seem lame...but having written pamplets this is the best approach.

Good Luck!

Hai Stuart,

You are absolutely right what I need is to convert the word document content into an image and then transfer it, so can you tell me the way to do it programmatically, and the other thing is the downloading file by the user should have to be a word document as well.

Once again, Thanks for you guys kind consideration to post.

Regards,

sumithmoratuwa.
