Hi,

I have a website configured for one static ip. When there is a problem in this static ip we change to another static ip vice versa. So when changing from one ip to another ip i have to change in the db for the portalalias table to refer to the new static ip. I have also written in the coding the old static ip for redirecting to another page. So it should also be changed. This is a tedious work and i hope it is not actually a good designing. When the ip is changed the site should still work with. So how can i do it. Plz advice.

Expecting the reply. Please do reply soon.

Thanks

So just to be clear, you are accessing the website by IP address and not a domain name?  If that is the case then the behavior you see will continue to be a problem any time you do change the static IP address.  If this is internal then you should set up an internal DNS entry that you can change the IP address pointing to that DNS entry and then use that DNS entry as your portal alias.

Example; internally we have our Intranet housed using DNN.  Instead of having people enter in the IP address in their browser window (pain in the butt) we have created a DNS entry called "MAC" (long story, but that is the name of our intranet).  The DNS server will take that entry and reroute it appropriate to the server running DNN.  If we move servers (which we have done twice in the past) all we have to do is update the DNS entry on our domain controller and voila!

You can add multiple aliases in DNN so just add each IP address as an alias.  Then DNN will keep working when you switch the IP address and you won't need to make any changes.

If your portal has multiple aliases mapped to each of those IP addresses it is smart enough to allow access on the one coming in that matches an entry in the portalalias table.  In other words, you shouldn't have to worry about the redirect yourself.
