Is it not possible to create a new portal with the same 'administrator' as another parent portal?

Everytime I try, I get  'A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username.'

Any reason why I can't have the same administrator for multiple portals?

I'm running my own host so I wonder why I can't have my 'admin' identity be the administrator for my portals..

Every portal, parent or otherwise, has to have a unique administrator?

I have a separate ID for my host account, so I'm confused.

Each portal has its own userbase, however the same username can be used only once in all portals. But, if a user registers for a second portal of the same installation using the same password, he is able to access multiple portals with the same account. this is by design.

So the work-around would be to either create the second parent portal with a unique "fake" administrator, register the administrator of the first portal register in the second portal, then elevate that user to administrator and delete the previous administrator?
... or ...
... have a second installation of DNN?

Either sounds like a lot of work for something that shouldn't be an issue. In my opinion, usernames should only need to be unique within the parent portal and all of its child portals (obviously derived from the parent) but not within the installation itself.

I think your use case and the current behaviour are both valid cases. There are enhancements logged in gemini about this.
