Hi All,

I cant say that i am new to DotNetNuke . But yes i didnt developed any custom module for it. Actually i want to craete my sipmle custom module outside from DotNetNuke in seperate visual studio project. So that after creating project i can easily zip it and plugin into the Dnn framework.

I saw a lot of tutorials over teh internet but everyone has craeted module in DNN project it under Desktop Module folder. is there anyway to create a module seperate from DNN framework. i will really appreciate your help.

Thanks a lot.

Akshay

Hi Akshay,

you can develop your modules inside the DesktopModules folder and package them with ease, using nAnt scripts, MSBuild scripts or the DNN export procedure. Anyway if you don't want to place your project files into the DesktopModules folder, you just need to correctly reference the DotNetNuke.dll library and remember to copy all the compiled dll and ascx files to the target folder before accessing the website.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Hi Akshay,

you can take a look at Philip's technique that automatically creates source and install packages of the module using MSBuild scripts. It is not exactly a Hello World example, but the code is pretty straightforward and well commented. Also remember to take a look at the MSBuild DotNetNuke Tasks project on Codeplex that will automatically update your dnn manifest.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
