Hi Guys
Just been playing with some SEO software, as part of it, you get sent to the w3c site for validation, OK i thought, shouldn't find much wrong, how wrong could i have been it came back with over 65 errors just on the front page. I did my bit went back to the site I was looking at checked for the errors made changes, and tried again, this time it came back with 60 errors,I rechecked where the errors were, it looks like the errors are within DNN itself not the bit that i had done on the skin.
Thinking they had got it wrong I ran the same check on the DNN website only to have 122 errors sent back

Is it me or shouldn't worry about the validation

Thanks
Pat

We've recently started up a new effort to work on compliance. At the minute we're still gathering requirements, and will pulish our intentions via the blogs when they timeline and scope are clearer. One item to note is that often many failures come from the inidividual skin (though there are some emitted by the dnn framework), so you may need to manually tweak your skin.

Hi Cathal
I did initially blame my skin, after checking, and rechecking, then comparing the results from both sites, that was what me ask the question. I'm not dissing DNN or the core team, cause I think the work you all do is great just needed to know if anyone else had noticed
many thanks
Keep up the good work
Pat

Pat, sorry if it appeared I was suggesting it could only be your skin, just thats it's often a key area. The problem is a complex one, as the framework version has a large effect also (asp.net 1.1 emits lots of non-compliant code), whereas asp.net 2.0 is much better in that regard. Theresa lively thread over at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/mid/2108/forumid/118/threadid/30604/scope/posts/Default.aspx where this has been discused recently that you may be interested in following.

Cathal, great reading the thread to end, having checked both the DNN and one of my own and both having similar errors generated but both sites work, (DNN site looks beter) I did realise that it was something in the code generally, not something to get very upset about, the thread did have some very good suggestions, which i may follow up at some stage in the not too distant future. Just one thing by "tweeking" the code as an end user, to make it compliant, will the next release have any impact on what i do? ie will it overwirte any changes that i do to the code.

Think i'll go off and have a look at the changes that are needed, it's got me thinking.  But then again that's what these forums are about small steps, = big leaps

Thanks for the point in the right direction
Pat
