I'm very new to DNN. I've never seen it before nor heard of it until now. I went through the video tutorial and it is very interesting and useful. However, to use DNN I have to have my own web server or find a web host that has the DNN option installed, correct? It will not work if the web host does not have DNN as an option since I will need admin right to install and configure DNN on the web server, right?

Thank you for your patience.

A host does not need to specifically offer DNN to you, all that does is make it easier for you to get up and running as they will 'install' DNN for you. If they don't offer DNN installation, then you have to upload and install DNN yourself.

All you need to make sure is that your host provides you a SQL Server database ( 2000 or 2005 ) and what versions of the ASP.NET framework they offer. If they only offer 1.1, then you must run DNN 3.X, if they offer ASP.NET 2.0, then you can run DNN 4.X

Thank you so much for a quick response. I don't have a ASP.NET web host yet but I'm on planning on switching from my PHP web host to ASP.NET when mine expires. So that is why I'm very curious as to how I would utilitize this software. So the only two things I should look for in a ASP.NET web host provider is SQL Server (2000 or 2005) and version of the ASP.NET, correct? MySQL will not do it, right?

Again, thanks!

That is correct. DNN versions 3.X and 4.X require SQL Server. There are data providers in development for MySql and Firebird, but neither are ready yet, so SQL Server is your only option at this time.
