On 16 June 2009 DotNetNuke Corp announced for the first time a version of DotNetNuke Professional Edition with features which are not available in the Community Edition.

A petition has been setup to champion DotNetNuke Corp to maintain the same features in the Professional and Community Editions while maintaining a paid/subscription option for dedicated support.

Please be aware that DotNetNuke Corp. needs to sell a lot of licenses to pay the wages of developers and sales stuff, therefore they need to provide benefits for their customers. I personally welcome that they focus for PE on features mainly used for large installations, like distributed caching in web farms, and the option that some of the PE features may be moved to CE.

Cheers from Germany,

What makes you think my say, or yours, will have any effect on a business product line of a corporation?  After all, the only thing a petition really does is tell them you want everything free.  And their stockholders really don't care about that opinion.

I have to say I'm pretty much with DNN Corp on this one. It's not too hot to see such a petition raised, especially from someone hiding being an anonymous account showing only 1 post (and the same with the Twitter account).

Although there may be some concerns at times - overall I think the PE could be seen as an optional add-on, not much different from any 3rd party add-on module/

It will be in the DNN Corp interests to have a large number of CE users, and to have this grow.

Many of the PE customers will come through from the CE, and the CE will also benefit as it does by many 3rd party modules (testing, feedback, broader functionality, introduction to core etc).

Hmmm 1 post. I have my theories as to who this may be :)...... but I'm keeping my mouth tightly closed.
