I have a question, and I apologize for my inexperience.  Can anyone explain if this is a security issue, and why would a visitor be doing this.  I have reviewed my website logs and I have someone doing the following:

/gc/js/dnncore.js
/js/dnn.js
/js/dnntree.js
/Controls/SolpartMenu/spmenu.js

No, it's not a security issue, they're just javascript files referenced via the core. The final 3 of those are standard javascript files that we use to create the DotNetNuke client API as well as the javascript menus. The first one is also a standard file, but it doesn't exist in a folder called gc normally (though that could just mean you're running a child portal with that name)

Cathal, thanks can you give a reason why a visitor would run these.  Is the visitor trying to see how the site is set up?  Sorry for the inexperience.  Thanks for the advise.  Below are the files again without the gc

/js/dnncore.js
/js/dnn.js
/js/dnntree.js
/Controls/SolpartMenu/spmenu.js

I'm not sure what you mean by 'run these' , if you mean they show up in your IIS logs, that's normal. All resources referenced by a page show up in the logs e.g. all images, javascript files, stylesheets etc.
