I'd recommend avoiding DNN4Less. I've hosted several sites with them since before their rebrand to Chillox, then back to DNN4Less again. I've recommended them previously to several clients. However now I would not recommend them to ANYONE.

My reasoning and outline of the story is below

Their ticketing system, and the staff manning it are absolutely useless.

  • I've had several tickets go missing (confirmation emails received that the ticket was submitted)
  • I've had tickets seemingly deleted or incorrectly reassigned (they were there, then they weren't and email links to the ticket say that the ticket couldn't be found or I don't have permission to view)
  • Tickets auto-close after 24 hours
  • For the tickets that are manually reopened they generally don't get a response - ie it's too hard so we won't even bother
  • After several attempts to use the "live chat" feature to resolve it usually it just wastes several minutes of  your time then drops you to an email form - no one is actually ever "available to chat"

What happened

  • I've previously requested my card details be removed from all accounts that it was on. This happened over a year ago.
  • They left didn't remove it from one account and charged my card
  • I requested a refund the day after (I still did not know which account I'd been charged for)
  • They responded saying they'd refund it but that if updated payment details weren't received within 48 hours the account would be terminated and files deleted etc. This was pending my approval.
  • I submitted my approval via the same ticket and requested that they email the account owner (as I didn't know who's account I'd been charged for) so that their site wasn't unexpectedly deleted
  • I got no refund or further response on that ticket
  • I submitted another ticket following up on it
  • They gave me some crap from their T&C stating that cancellations had to be made 3 days prior to renewal
  • More issues with the ticketing system (missing tickets, randomly closed tickets etc)
  • I wasn't requesting a cancellation - just a refund and change of payment details
  • They accidentally sent a response to the account owner who responded with updated card details
  • They charged her account, removed the charge to my account from their system and updated it with hers (nice accounting practises - shouldn't it all be transactional!)
  • So now they've charged both my card and the account holders
  • After over a week they still haven't responded to my ticket requesting that they refund the full amount so I've contacted the bank and requested a reversal

Other issues I've had with sites in the past:

  • After a server upgrade at least 2 sites hosted by them were broken, however they fixed it fairly quickly after ticketing.
  • Performance has been sporadic, at times on some sites I've had pages time out etc. But of course this is shared hosting and you get what you pay for and with DNN4Less you don't pay much...
  • More tickets going missing! They've been using the same damn system at least since Chillox - time to upgrade!

Other notes

Throughout the whole process I tried to remain fairly civil and polite however they've been nothing but useless. I didn't spam their ticketing system or take to the forums until they've forced me to follow it up via my bank.

I won't say don't use them, but I'd recommend using extreme caution if you choose to as they've effectively stolen ~$165 USD from my account, and have made no effort to rectify the situation.

Just wanted to post an update - They are apparently in the process of refunding the money (it hasn't yet hit my account but being an IMT I expect it'll take a couple of days)

Early on in the process I was misinformed about which account I was charged for which confused the process

It took 6 months of following this up to get an escalation

After escalation I was offered a pro-rated refund of 6 months

I argued that it was due to their own staffs ineptitude that it had remained open that long hence I was entitled to the full amount and suggested that if I didn't receive a reasonable refund
I'd be sharing my experience throughout this process as much as I could

They informed me that they'll be refunding the full amount! Thanks for doing the right thing finally DNN4Less :)
