I do not hate it. I did like it and I still like it.  I even developed my own module.  I've been using DNN almost exclusively for all of my web development - for 5 wonderful years.

But I stop using it.

The reason is that I found that time I spend on fixing DNN related issues is too much compared to the benefits I get from it. Every time I get an error from DNN/Windows server, I know I can fix them eventually but, at the same  time, I know I need to spend hours & hours on it.  It may not apply to,,, like you, windows/dnn professionals. You might fix them right away.  But how about general population? Is this level of complexity necessary for most of people who are new to DNN... just to run a website?

As website developer/webmaster, I would like to spend time on many other components - SEO. Social Media. usability, email campaign, etc. - so I can utilize the site better to get to my goal. I do not want to spend many hours on back-end component , such as maintenance/upgrade DNN.  The reality is, DNN takes time from me.  When DNN runs fine, it's good! When DNN goes wrong, it's NIGHTMARE! Do you know what I am saying? lol

Wordpress is simpler.  It's much much simpler in most of directions.  There are some areas that Wordpress doesn't cover but DNN does better job. However, overall, WP is simple. obvious. faster, very stable.  I know, "It depends on what you want to do with it". but in my case, it's just not working at least for now. The reason I posted this is that  I loved DNN. I do not want to see DNN used by only mid-high skilled professionals.

ok, maybe I am thinking too much or making totally wrong statement lol. in that case, delete this post...

sorry to hear about your troubles. It's often not possible to compare products to each other e.g. wordpress uses php which is an interpreted language so it's much easier to overwrite text files, rather than having to update compiled code (e.g. dll's). We're starting to work on a series of enhancments in both the install/upgrade area to simplify this, and would appreciate it you (or anyone else) logged any issues they have so we've captured as many permutations/problems as there are so we can improve the experience.

The DNN team should really focus on stability and NOT on new releases .... that would do the trick!

First of all: virtual office is right, but this is another story.

Now to Tak. On the one hand i can understand him, as there were times where i was asking myself "why the hack am i sitting her at midnight trying to fix this or even trying to get it back running".
And i'm for some years now with dnn and also had an issue where the only solution was a fresh installation and pouplating it again with my content. Well, there are some things i would prefer to do on a weekend.....

On the other hand, i cannot understand.
The support for the community edition here in the forum is very helpful, well almost every time and as long as you know how to search (searchdotnentnuke.com !!!, not the forum search)
And there is no need to upgrade your installation when it is running fine.
I have some pages running at my customers sites, some are still on 4.9 and are running fine. They are happy so the old rule counts: "never touch a running system".
My private site at home is the candidate to take every upgrade pretty soon. BUT only if the fullbackup went without errors.

So, yes, there are some weird things in dnn which could lead to sleepless nights, but first ask yourself the question: what was the reason for changing anything?
Yes, sometimes upgrades or module installations are going wrong, but i cannot utillze one word more: backup!

Maybe you give DNN another chance.

Cheers

Kai

PS: Nobody is complaining about Microsoft, allthough almost every product coming out to the market is the world-greates beta-test..... everybody is using it. Hm.....
